ITINERARY:
Day 1 Bucharest
Arrival at Bucharest airport and transfer to your hotel. Check-in and installation at the hotel. At 19h00, meet with your guide and walk to a local restaurant for dinner. Overnight in Bucharest. (D)
Day 2 Bucharest – Curtea de Arges – Sibiu
After breakfast, departure for Curtea de Arges, the former capital of Wallachia. Lunch en route. Visit the Episcopal Church where the Romanian Kings are buried. Drive along the picturesque Olt Valley to Sibiu, one of the oldest towns in Transylvania – formerly Hermannstadt – founded by the Saxon colonists. Guided walking tour of the medieval town (the Main Square, the Evangelical Church, the Liars’ Bridge etc.).Depart for Sibiel village -visit the Museum of Icons. Dinner and overnight stay at guest house. (B,L, D)
Day 3 Sibiu – Sighisoara – Targu Mures – Bistrita
Morning departure to Sighisoara, birthplace of Vlad the Impaler . En-route, visit the fortified Church at Biertan. We arrive at Sighisoara and discover the medieval Citadel, included in UNESCO World Heritage: the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill, the roofed stairways etc. Lunch at the “House of Dracula” restaurant. Continue to Targu Mures – arrival and walking tour through the elegant city centre. Drive on to Bistrita and visit the Gothic Cathedral. Dinner and overnight in Bistrita (B, L, D)
Day 4 Bistrita – Campulung Moldovenesc – Gura Humorului
Departure to Bucovina, the land of the unique painted monasteries. Arrive at Campulung Moldovenesc and visit the Wooden Museum. Lunch in a local, traditional restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Moldovita and Sucevita monasteries – treasures of the medieval Moldavian art and the village of Marginea – very well known for its black pottery. Drive on to Gura Humorului for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)
Day 5 Gura Humorului – Lacu Rosu
In the morning, visit Voronet Monastery called “the Sistine Chapel of the East’; we continue driving through the Moldavian villages. Visit the monastery Secu with its unique fortified entrance and classical elements of Moldavian and Wallachian architecture.Lunch will be served at the monastery with wine and “tuica” (traditional drink). Continue with visit to Agapia monastery – the greatest monastic complex. In the afternoon, drive along the Bicaz Lake and its impressive dam, to admire the scenic view. Cross the Bicaz Gorges – on foot (weather condition); continue to Lacu Rosu (the Red Lake) resort for visit / photo stop. Dinner and overnight at Lacu Rosu (B, L, D)
Day 6 Lacu Rosu – Bran – Brasov
Departure to Brasov; stop-over at Prejmer and visit the fortified church. Lunch in a local restaurant. Drive on to Bran to visit the famous medieval castle The “Dracula’s” Castle, built as a fortress for the citizens of Brasov in 1377. Arrive at Brasov, formerly Kronstadt, founded by the Saxon colonists. Walking tour through the old town centre, including the Black Church, the Council Square, etc…Overnight stay in Brasov (B, L,) Note: no dinner included on this day.
Day 7 Brasov – Sinaia – Bucharest
In the morning, we cross the Carpathians toward Sinaia, one of the most beautiful mountain resorts, also called”the pearl of the Carpathians”. Visit the famous Peles Castle, an exquisite piece of architecture, with its art and armoury collections etc. The Castle served as the summer residence of the Romanian Royal family. Lunch in Sinaia. Continue to Bucharest for panoramic tour of the city of contrasts between old and modernity, with its large boulevards and magnificent buildings (the Romanian Athenaeum, the Patriarchal Church, Visit the House of Parliament, built 1984 – 1989, the second largest building in the world, with its unique marble decorations. Farewell dinner in a lovely “brasserie”, keeping immortal the old time of Bucharest spirit.(B, L, D)
Day 8 Bucharest – departure
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight. End of our service (B)
